Leading UK Housebuilders by Number of Housing Completions 2020-2023

Barratt Developments is the leading UK home builder with 17,206 new homes built in the period to June 2023. However, this number is slightly down on its previous years’ count of 17,908. Barratt has an estimated 8.2% share of completions in 2023.

Persimmon Homes had 14,868 new home completions in 2022, and is yet to report its full 2023 number as its year end is in December. However, its new home completions in the first half of 2023 were 4,249, compared to 6,652 in the first half of 2023, down 36% in a year. Persimmon had a market share of completions of 7.3% in 2022.

Taylor Wimpey had 14,154 completions in its full year to 2022, up from 9,799 in 2020. However, in a similar scenario to Persimmon, Taylor Wimpey’s completions in the first half of 2023 were 5,120, compared to 6,922 in the first half of 2022. The company stated, “The first half of the year has been characterised by variable market conditions including substantially higher mortgage rates.” Taylor Wimpey had a 7.0% market share of completions in 2022.

Other leading companies in the UK housebuilding market include Vistry Group, which acquired Countryside in 2022, Bellway (11,198 completions), Redrow, Bloor Homes, Berkeley Group, Cala Group, Crest Nicholson and Miller Homes.
